Emergency Tsunami by NAV

If you followed me and known me for quite some time, I've never been a huge fan of NAV. I never saw the appeal of his music or the man himself, also I was tired of people saying I looked like him a bit. I didn't like his lyrics and his voice, man his voice. Sounded like a robot trying to discover human emotions or a really bad impression of someone singing in autotune. He would have a track here and there where I would enjoy, mainly cause of the featured artist or the production itself and not him. In this wild year that we have been in, he has been growing on me. His recent album "Good Intentions" I wasn't a big fan of, but I also didn't hate it either, just an Indifferent, fine album. The only major issue I had was him re-releasing the album as a deluxe version, which I'm sick of with what rappers are doing with this move. Still, A good handful of songs with good beats and some really great features, and Nav himself stepped up a bit in a few songs, getting somewhat personal on a track or two, mixed in with typical shit you hear from the man himself.

I think another too that made me start enjoying his music was me getting older and being more open-minded and not so stubborn. I know no doubt he's not for everyone but you do need people like NAV in music, in all honestly, he is great background music. or for me to get a chuckle cause he does been saying funny shit. When it was announced that a new mixtape/album with producer Wheezy handling all the beats on this new album, I was curious how it would go since they have done some of my favorite songs this year. so, did the album live up to my hype?

While I don't like this album as much as others would, It is still a decent album and in my opinion, his best work to date. I hope Nav keeps working with Wheezy cause they do have great chemistry together. Nav's weird and funny robotic voice works with Wheezy style of production. "Friends & Family" is a perfect intro song with the whole epic orchestral loop, makes the whole track sound grand and epic. "Young Wheezy" with Gunna is also a perfect track and every time these two get together they make great stuff. Gunna flows so smoothly and the hook is catchy, which doesn't surprise me, Gunna a hook monster. Nav here does his thing, one line I enjoyed is when he said: "I never play golf but I still keep my iron", ha funny. "Repercussions" with Young Thug, another solid banger. Love the keys and loops, Thugga always kills when he works with this style of production. I do wonder if thug will ever do like an EP with Wheezy cause I really do want it.

"Vetment Socks" is a decent "look at my riches and flex on ya track, beat really helped the track. "Don't Need Friends" with the MVP of 2020 Lil Baby and is my favorite track here.  Baby is someone I didn't like at first but man I can't front, this is really his year. Nav raps about how people didn't want him to succeed, mainly cause of his background and descent. Understable when most people of his descent and the place he grew up around were never musicians and I do respect how far he has come whatever shit he had to deal with. "Make It Right Back" has my favorite production and hook on the entire record. I enjoy Nav's vocals even if he sounds like he's gargling his words but the flow works. "Trains" with Lil Keed a fun song, the mixing could be better with Keeds verse, Nav flow is honestly goofy but I still like the song.  "Do Ya Deed" with Sahbabii is a good track, I just wished the vocals were mixed better. Sahabii outshined Nav like most artists when doing tracks with NAV. I did hope the last three tracks before the last outro skit ended the album strongly, cause the album was going on a run but sadly no. The production on these tracks was bland as hell and at this point in my listening session I burned out.

Overall at the end of the day, It's a fine album. it's very short and doesn't overstay its welcome, the biggest x-factor, and star of the album is Wheezy on production. I'm not sure what else Nav can do else cause it seems comfortable where he is at right now musically. Should take some risks with his music? absolutely, he is going to? no. Am I a NAV fan? not really but I don't hate his music anymore. To me, he's just there for me when I need a laugh or music that's good when I'm drunk off my ass by myself. So, decent job NAV.
