$ome $exy $ongs 4 U by PARTYNEXTDOOR & Drake

So yeah. This is a very interesting way to respond after being in one of the biggest rap beefs in recent memory. I don’t want to spend time and energy on the whole beef, it’s starting to get a bit tired. I’m more of a Kendrick fan and I’ll agree he won the beef and is enjoying a long-ass victory lap, but at one point I was a huge Drake fan, he was one of my favorite study cases as a person and artist. Recently It was ten years ago that “IYRTITL” dropped and wild to think about how much Aubery’s music has regressed. Sure, most of my reviews about Drake’s music have been mostly positive, but I don’t go back to those albums. I don’t know if it’s cause it’s “fast food” music, that weird subsection of his weird fanbase, or maybe it’s the person itself. With each release, I get less and less excited. Sure, there are moments here and there I enjoy, mainly when he’s trying something different for once or I am chasing that nostalgia high when he dips back into that “old drake”. I remember seeing a video about a lady why people still tune into his music, nostalgia is one of the main reasons, and not the “I get bitches” gimmick that his weird male fanbase love to say every time a new album comes out.

I’ll say another reason, a major one at that is HE NEVER TAKES A BREAK! I know outside of the beef tracks, that Drake stimulus package failing, or that weird “finsta” account dropping “100 gigs for your head top” leftovers, He didn’t drop an album. Honestly, he should’ve taken most of 2025 off and laid low, maybe dropping that album in the summer of 2026. Nope, We have this. Odd for him to drop a collab album with PND, seems like a whole decade too late but sure? Also, I wished this was an EP, which was the original plan but whatever, sure why not a full-length album? I haven’t been huge on Party, I think his music just flat-out stinks. Mind-numbing background music when you’re blasted at some shitty hookah bar. I liked his first album, I thought the features on Kanye’s self-titled album were solid, He was singing on something different production so it helped a lot. Outside of that, It’s a huge snooze. He is also one of the main reasons why most of the R&B nowadays sounds like expired milk, What happened to the church kids who used to sing with soul and passion? Everything sounds so bland.

I won’t waste too much here, I’ll be honest the album isn’t good but it’s not bad either. I feel if Drake didn’t take over in the middle of the album, this shit would’ve been up there for some of the worst music I’ve heard so far this year. Thank you, Aubrey, I guess? I do think out of the 13 songs that did together, three were solid and the rest, I didn’t feel anything. Just a blank stare on my face wanting for the song to be over with or just a skip. “SOMETHING ABOUT YOU” works for me cause PND isn’t a huge presence, Drake just takes over the song. I like the production and the nice beat switch, it fits cause Drake is more yearning while Party sounds more confident spitting games towards this woman they desire. “SPIDER-MAN SUPERMAN” sampling “The Real Her” was pretty dope, I do wish they used more superhero shouts for the inner nerd in me. “DIE TRYING” using an indie rock guitar had me laughing my ass off when this first played, I had a joke in the past that I couldn’t wait for him to go down the indie rock or maybe country path one day since he does love trends, also he lives in Texas and was planning to live in Arizona down the road. I could see the desert vibes would make me do a whole Jelly Roll or Post Malone switch up for shit and giggles and impress that southern belle he ran into. Part of me wants to shit on this song but I think cause it’s so left-field and different, I admire and love the song more for taking a risk. I do wish “MEET YOUR PADRE” could’ve worked but Spanish music and Drake don’t mix well at well. Not trying to hear another fake accent dude.

Speaking of taking a risk, “NOKIA”. Was he inspired by “Brat Summer”? (my fault). I legit was ready to be like Terry Crew in “White Chicks” and bring out the whistle and glow sticks, I couldn’t help but have a goofy smile on and shuffle my shoulders to this. Put this in Grand Theft Auto 6 on the gay Tony-type beat radio station, the beat switch is sick, “BABBY GURL” vocals have been stuck in my head for a few days. Please embrace more of this goofy side of yourself Drake, “Honestly Nevermind” could’ve had more songs if he committed more to the bit. Those other Drake solo tracks I brought up a while ago, yeah I love those songs. “BRIAN STEEL” is a nod to Young Thug’s Lawyer, it’s short and sweet, Drake has this flow in recent albums, and this somehow works for whatever reason. The “I got plaques like I haven’t been brushing my teeth” is clever and a nice flex can’t lie. “RAINING IN HOUSTON” has him dipping into his toes again with the Houston sound, I wished it didn’t have a beat switch. I concluded when I reached the point of the album, too many beat switches. Like if you going to do one, try not to be lazy with it. However, I fuck with the track, reminds me of a sequel to this one song from the 21 Collab album.

I know the big song to blow up from this was “GIMMIE A HUG”, which seems like a response to the whole beating he got. I’ll admit, this was good. The best(?) song from the Drake camp, The joe budden line was so fucking funny, the podcast episode is gonna be so funny. I like he’s self-aware that he just wants to have fun and move on from his opps, for now. The funniest thing is how after all that, the song ends with him missing his hoes over an Aaron Hall sample, a “brave” choice to sample Aaron Hall, if you know his backstory, yeah. Not good. Anyways, the “gimmie a hug” line reminds me of those “where my hug at?” Memes, most Drake fanboys have dealt with that (I’m kidding..not really). As far as the rest of the album goes, I didn’t care too much for this. The one solo PND song was nice I can’t lie, I even went “Alright he’s trying here, hold up!”. The song with Pim was nice as well, I need to check out more of their music when I get a chance. Yeah, Like I said, Didn’t care for the rest of the album, I can’t sit through and stomach the rest of it. Mindless, lackluster, and repetitious performances from Party ruin the vibes where the album is all about the vibes. Also, him doing an Ice Spice flow on “GLORIOUS” rapping about a lady getting kicked outta of her mom’s house at the age of 38, read the room! Sounds sus as the youth say.

My final thought is that Drake could’ve done a better job and put more effort into the album after a year of being called a pedophile by the majority of the world. Feels like Drake just wanted to put something out for the moment and boost his numbers and get his records back, maybe even a big fuck you to UMG but it falls flat. Take the break, find something to inspire you, and maybe do that indie rock album like your mentor Wayne did. Party just sounds like when an aging movie star gets top billing in an action movie but he barleys in the movie and does anything of note. I’m just sick of the whole “I need her”, chubb fairy tales or everyone hates me lyrics from the boy, if you’re planning to do it in the future, make it stand out more. The album has a few highlights but nothing crazy, feels like it’s just something to please his fanbase after their idol was the clown of the year and something that will be forgotten about in a short time like his recent albums in the past decade. I do miss the old Drake *sigh*.
