2019 is coming to end and also with a new decade right around the corner it is that time of year, year-end lists! 2019 was a mixed bag with the hip hop scene, wasn't the worst year in my opinion, just forgettable. Albums that came out of the mainstream side came and went quickly after a week hell even days, at least we can thank the "underground" scene carried this year of hip-hop. There weren't a lot of bad albums this year but more disappointing and made me wished these some of these artists would go back to their old ways and sounds, which for some it wasn't that long ago (wild). Well, here are my top ten WORST albums of 2019!!
10. ERYS by Jaden
*sigh* Oh Jaden, I don't wanna lose hope with you but I am. The last album he dropped which I talked about had the BROCKHAMPTON and Travis Scott's heavy influence on that project, here he does dive into Travis's sound again, but mainly a song or album that was made by Travis. I called this album the "SICKO MODE ALBUM" or "ASTROWORLD .5" cause literally almost every song has three or four-beat switches and its a fucking headache. It's annoying too, there are tracks that got a moment where it's like ok this great/good and beat switches and it ruins the whole song. Jaden lyrically isn't all the special and to be honest, the album is really fucking borning. Like I said there were a few bright spots here with sections from songs and the features but honestly was another huge disappointment. Jaden, you got two strikes with me, I know you can do it, Just found your own sound man!
9. Nostalgia Critic's The Wall
Yeah I know this a parody album and yes I saw the "review" and heard this "project" too but man why does it exist? Not only it's a major disrespect to Pink Floyd, The Wall, but also to music, my eyes and my ears. It sounds like Doug Walker just wants to be different just for shock value and it failed miserably with the childish songwriting and cheap production. yeah fuck this album and fuck you, Doug Walker. Also, I hope you paid Corey Taylor well to do a shitty cover of SpongeBob's theme. GARBAGE!
8. Here Comes The Cowboy by Mac DeMarco
7. Father of Asahd by DJ Khaled
The moral of the story I would say here is, never embrace the meme. I am just sick and tired of DJ Khaled. What's sad is Khaled use to be a great curator back in the day and hell I even say he influenced a few artists/producers on how to be a great curator when he comes to bring artists together and make's the song work. What's funny here is that he is bringing the same artists that he got hits with before and see if it can become a hit again with Hov and Future to Bieber, Quavo, and Chance and it failed miserably. Also, he gets artists together and he should know that their sounds don't mesh well but he does it anyway and it sucks and the artists themself just phone it in just to get that bag. SZA singing over an OutKast type beat like why? only highlight here which is the only reason why I listen to it was the Nipsey Hussle, it's is a beautiful moment but it was just a moment. Khaled wasn't happy that Tyler beat him in first week sales and Khaled dropped a video saying Tyler music was "Mysterious" cause he didn't hear Tyler's album on the radio or barbershops. I think he even tried to sue billboard cause he had album bundles with an energy drink company and it didn't count towards his sales, which billboard changed the rules for that. I wish Khaled would go back to making hood anthems of the 00's.
6. ! by Trippie Redd
Thank god Trippie dropped ALLTY4 cause man this album was just a snoozefest. on "!" I had no idea what he was doing here and just moments where I had to hit the skip button and move on to the next song. The features were the only major highlight here and which it is funny to say cause one of the features Playboi Carti was removed due to either label issues or Trippie wasn't happy he was getting outshined by Carti to which some people had suggested. yeah, this album just boring and honestly a major disappointment.
5. Harverd Dropout by Lil Pump
It's pretty much a given that the SoundCloud era of rap has come to an end. Some acts broke out of that scene and have great success in the mainstream, a few are still around in the underground scene and still have a buzz, a few had one hit and just dipped, and unfortunately, some are currently behind bars or passed away. This man here did break out of that Soundcloud bubble but man has the whole experiment Lil Pump has fallen off the cliff. I wasn't expecting anything groundbreaking here but with his debut mixtape, I've enjoyed it, just tons of fun but this wasn't a fun record at all. The album just sounded very commercial and songs didn't have the same impact or energy that "Gucci Gang" or "D Rose" had, it's missing the charm and some of the raw sound that his self titled. It might be crazy to say I was disappointed with a Lil Pump album but I really was. Not sure where he goes from here but man what a fall off this dude here.
4. The Big Day by Chance The Rapper
Yes, the wife album. I review this album early this year and my opinion still stands for this project. I won't say too much here, it's crazy how much Chance musically changed in three to five years. Corny bars, bad production, the features were ok to bad, vocal ranges from annoying to cringe, and overall it is just a bad album. Hot Shower one of the worst songs of year too as well. The Wife album. Nope.
3. Confessions of a Dangerous Mind by Logic
I have given up on Logic. What happened? Easily his worst album to date. It's just sad in a short time he's gotten worst and worst and worst. The whole album is annoying with him crying about haters which it's laughable cause he's just a corny dude and not a hateful person. Album did start promising with the first two songs but not even a solid YBN Cordae or a Gucci who was there for a check couldn't help this album. Also with him shouting out all these famous people made Game probably jealous and the whole theory that he is rapping under an alter ego doesn't justify the album at all. He has become the call of duty games, the trailer and beta drops and you go "Wow this is so much fun" and the game drops and its a broken mess. moral of the story, never embrace the meme.
2. 93punx by 93punx, Vic Mensa
Kid Cudi, I like to apologize to you. Speeding Bullet to Heaven wasn't that bad. Vic Mensa what happened to you? How you can from Orange Soda and 16 Shots to this? This man has an identity crisis cause I don't know why he could down this path. The production sounds very bad and I give Cudi cause he seemed respectable to this style of music but Vic he really didn't, reminds of really bad 00's pop-punk. Lyrically it ranges from cringe to ironic to fake woke. "Camp America" I can give somewhat a pass cause the hook was touching but the production is bad and it's left the field from the whole punk aesthetic. Last thing the line where he said "Take your clothes baby, Let me see what you got. We can have a good time if you're legal or not" is SUPER out of context, should've rewritten that one Vic. Vincent Mensa, please go back to rapping, please.
1. Supermarket by Logic
*sigh* Kid Cudi, I am really sorry for the speeding bullet 2 heaven slander again. Logic. Why? Why ruined a tribe called a quest song by making it into an indie-rock tune? Why rap and sing over Mac DeMarco type beats? why that rick and morty line? WHY LEMON DROP?! this soundtrack for his novel is has very awkward vocals and lines. 2019 was the worst year for Logic and you are easily my worst rapper of 2019. I am honestly embarrassed to call myself a Logic fan. I am done with you. Go away, man. take a break. NEVER EMBRACE THE MEME.
