Ten Albums I've Changed My Opinion On

What's up everyone who still read these blog posts but hello. It's been a while since I posted here, personal life and work gets in the way sometimes (I know I sound like a broken cause I think I've said this many times ha). Today we are doing something a bit different, instead of doing an album review I thought talking about albums that I've changed my opinion. A while everyone we have opinions we agree or disagree on but opinions can change, if good or bad. So here are ten albums that I've changed my opinion on.

At.Long.Last.A$AP by A$AP Rocky

Rocky's as of late has been on a decline as of late since the release of his debut mixtape that put him on the map and forefront of the beast coast movement that was happening beginning this decade. When this album came out I was indifferent towards this, mainly after the first two tracks the whole album has so much filler it was a chore to finish this album and it took to track 11 to be oh shit finally something good. Four years later I found myself going back and listening to this time to time, while I don't love this album but I am liking this record a bit more then it was first released.". Most of the tracks that consider filler beside "L$D" which to this day I can't stomach to listen I enjoy songs like  "Excuse Me", "Max B", and even "Electric Body" even with the goofy hook attach to it. Even though I'm not sure I'll ever be hyped for a Rocky album like I was when I was younger since this release but I'm also curious what he does next cause I don't think he will release something worst than "Testing"......... I hope.

Nothing Was The Same by Drake

I gotta shout out my friend Mike cause he kept telling this album was good and I always thought he was wrong and he's was being one of them "Aubrey's Angels" praising everything that Drake's does (gladly he's not I think). in Drake's entire discography I have enjoyed three albums and one's a mixtape and the other a collab tape but I would add "Nothing Was The Same" to that list, at the time another album came out of it feeling indifferent and didn't understand what was good about this album. I think it had to do I was one of those back in the day that disliked Drake and would share those "Drake the type of" memes and slander him all the time, wasn't till 2014-2015 my outlook changed on Drake. I think the deeper cuts of the album are better than the singles that came out before it dropped, "Own It", "The Language" "Connect" and "Tuscan Leather" I still go back to a lot, "Started from the Bottom" and "Wu-Tang Forever" just haven't aged well for me. After this and Drake's MVP like the year of 2015, his music has hit that indifferent stage for me again but I will admit I am a fan now with this album Baka.

Cherry Bomb by Tyler, The Creator

Sitting here laughing typing right now this cause I remember saying in 2015 that Tyler was never gonna be good ever again, HOLY SHIT I WAS SUPER WRONG. I hated this record ranging from the terrible mixing, production, and the lyrics, years later I love this album a lot. When listening to this album now I can sense the transition that Tyler was maturing and testing how new sounds and wanted to make the music he enjoys and put his own oddball twist on it. Mixing on this album doesn't bother me that much anymore the title track is the only song I skipped most of the times cause it stills sounds like a Death Grips parody song. Thinking it about now I think disliked this album cause I was going through some shit into personal life and this shit ruined my mood, also I didn't the sounds Tyler was doing but the artist have to evolve at some point and I'm glad Tyler did.

808's and Heartbreaks by Kanye West

Ten years later, I finally like this album now. This album still ranks low on my Kanye ranking list but I liked this album more than I did back in high school. I don't wanna go on and on what the reception this album got when it dropped in 2008 but this album did have a huge impact on music years later. If you listen to a lot the songs that come out today they do have that 808's and Heartbreaks influence with the autotune crooning and mood with the sounds we hear today and it did help with accepting this album more than I did back then, "Robocop" is still a bad song sorry everyone.

DAMN. by Kendrick Lamar

So far you are reading this thinking "is this whole list just albums you disliked but now you like?' well no. I loved "DAMN." when it first came out, I was bumping this shit every day and gave it a very high score and it was top ten favorite albums of that year but two years I'd been playing this album less and less. I compared this album to relationship well you're in love with this person and then after a while, the love is gone and decide to just be friends. I still like this album but I don't love it anymore, mainly the tracks that were considered popular like "HUMBLE" and "DNA" gets fewer spins and every time I hear these songs I just rolled my eyes and go "Oh god this song". Plus all theories and what the concept was supposed is still confusing as well.  Album still has highlights on here but this doesn't get many plays nowadays like his other work.

Blank Face LP by Schoolboy Q

Oddly enough another album from the TDE camp, Blank Face by Q. Like "DAMN." I loved this album, got a lot of plays but after a few months and years later I never back went to album hardly ever but I when I did, This album didn't click for me anymore and the love was gone. I did respect Q switched things up and try new sounds on here but the songs now don't really don't have a much of impact to me now than it did back then. Another issue is that the album is super long and too much filler, I still play the track with Vince Staples, 'THat Part" and "Groovy Tony" time to time but anything else gets a skip. I know Q himself said in an interview that he felt this album was trash in a joking matter, I wouldn't go that far but the album is just ok at best.

Starboy by The Weeknd

I won't repeat myself on here again like I always do but this relates to the previous two albums but if "Starboy" were the first seven tracks and that was it this would have been the perfect EP and overall great record but after that this album just becomes so much filler and boredom that the series Naruto is jealous "Starboy" has more filler than the entire show.

Playboi Carti by Playboi Carti

This album disappointed me when it was first released, I am a huge Carti fan and I remember I was like everyone begging for a project to drop and it was finally here and feeling underwhelmed. "DIE LIT" came out a year later and I love that shit so I went to Carti's self-titled debut mixtape/album after "DIE LIT" came out and I've enjoyed this way more now than I did two years ago. Carti's rapping and style is not for everyone I get that but its something I can't really describe but something you gotta experience to understand just how odd he raps but also melodic it is and works like peanut butter and chocolate, I still prefer "DIE LIT" over his self titled but this album is a fun listen for me now.

SYRE by Jaden

Back when I use to do a podcast with Mike and my other friend Tray, I was the only who felt Jaden's album "SYRE" was meh and the other two gave me shit cause they liked the album a lot. The main issue with this at the time was the album felt all over the place with the sounds he was doing, lyrically the album was a bit goofy and eye-rolling rapping trust fund baby raps and conspiracy theories lines, and I wasn't huge on Jaden's voice. I don't love the album but it has grown on me. The first four songs which spell out "BLUE" is very great and I love the concept of those songs how they are put together, I remember I didn't like those songs now I feel like an idiot. I still have faith in Jaden cause he can rap and does have a few gems but I didn't like the last album he had released cause he sounded too much like his influences but he still has to grow and found his sound so I wish Jaden the best.

     Barter 6 by Young Thug

I use to hate Young Thug, I was one of those kids that only listen to "real hip hop" and the whole that new rappers that were coming out at the time I hated and I didn't get their appeal but I grew up and understood you need a balance and all hip-hop can be accept. I do agree with my twitter friend Adam that Thug's album that is an EP/short length is his best work but "Barter 6" is the album that changed my mind on the whole "Mumble/Soundcloud" Rappers you hear today and also inspired this list (Also wanna mention Future too). Thugga has birthed a lot of the rappers and his influence and odd voice and style could put him in the top ten most influential rappers in the next couple of years whenever we have those talks, so thank you Jeffery for changing my opinion.
