Scary Hours 2 EP (Tracks Review) by Drake

Tis' the season. Drake was originally scheduled to drop "Certified Lover Boy" back in January, but the album was delayed due to an ACL tear. Yeah, the cause of the delay was a sports-related injury, odd. However, Drake said it was time for the people to get new music to hold them over until his new album drops. He brought back OVO sound radio for the first time in a few years via Sirus XM and did give an update about the album. No solid release date yet but it is still being "cooked on" for now. Personally, I'm not sure what the next Drake album is gonna sound like. There are a few ideas I want to see but I'll save that for later. Let us dive into these tracks.

"What's Next" was a leaked track that surfaced a few weeks ago, I think there were two different versions of this track that was out there but at least we got the official release. The track is fine, the production reminds me of uzi/carti type beat or even something from the old Sonic games. I can tell this Drake wants this to be the big single from the EP, there is even a music video for this track. I don't think it's gonna be as huge as "God's Plan" was for the first "Scary Hours" EP, but it might. Fine song, fun brag raps, nothing crazy on this one.

"Want and Needs" has a Lil Baby feature and Cardo handling the production, man Lil Baby went crazy on this one and made this track his own. The theme of the track fits the name of the track well done, balancing all the important things in their lives all at once. Drake does have a nice verse, he does a funny jab at Kanye, saying he should confess all his sins to him since Kanye is all religious now. Not gonna lie that was pretty funny. As I said Lil Baby stole the show and song, He went off. I like the goat line he said, he doesn't feel like he is the goat (yet) but it seems like he fits the description. I love this one.

"Lemon Pepper Freestyle". Man. This is just...amazing. Rick Ross is featured on here, his verse is short compared to Drake's but these two have great chemistry. It baffles me these two haven't done any collab album yet but it should be time to be quite honest. This type of drake's track I honestly love the most. Him sitting back and reflecting over this beautiful sample mixed with a low-key beat. He spits dad raps on here, which is kinda surprising for me to hear but at the same time shouldn't. He talks about picking up his kid from school and attending PTA meetings and how women get googley eyed and their husbands getting jealous. I'm just picturing in the future that all the single teachers or fans of his gonna make his kid fail in school on purpose so they can be able to talk or possibly hook up with Drake. He spits another child support line which I did roll my eyes at but it is one of the better ones he has said. He also gives shout-outs to the crown princes of Dubai to Ross and Demar Derozan who use to play for the Raptors. Best track overall and I will always want more songs like this from the boy himself.

This was a nice teaser and taste of what we might expect from Drake's next album, now what I want from his new album is I am still wondering myself. Drake is at the point of his career where he can drop whatever he wants and gonna do numbers, and people will love or hate it. I don't think he has declined or become stagnant, I think that drive and hunger ain't there, it shouldn't be anymore and that's ok. He has nothing left to prove anymore so why complain is what I'm trying to get at. I am not the biggest Drake fan but I know what I'm getting when I hear his stuff nowadays good or bad.

If I had a wishlist of ideas I wanna see from "Certifed Lover Boy" I would like to hear more dad raps, those rumors songs that he has ranged from Griselda and Baby Keem, that Roddy Rich collab getting more polished and official release, possible another drakeo song that still being kept away for now, curious if he has done anything with members of the now-disbanded shoreline mafia since it seems like he a fan of the up and coming west coast sound, and lastly since drake does like to hop on new sounds, is it possible he might work with folks from the buzzing Michigan scene? Would be insane to hear a Drake x Babyface Ray or Lonnie Bands track. We won't find out (unless more leaks hit the e-streets) what the project is how gonna sound but I will be curious about what the boy does next.
