Summer Songs 2 By Lil Yachty

Who is Lil Yachty? Miles Parks McCollum aka Lil Yachty aka Lil Boat aka Darnell Boat is Singer, Rapper, and Songwriter from Atlanta, Georgia and this is a follow up to his debut project "Lil Boat". To be honest his debut project I didn't like at first but somehow after many listens it became one of my top ten favorite projects of this year so far when I did my list. I first heard of Yachty through twitter and friends talking about him so me being curious I looked him up through Soundcloud and found a song by him called "1 Night" which was his breakthrough song to get his name out there in the mainstream. I can't denied his music is pretty god damn fun and catchy as hell, he's not the better lyricist which with the name like his I don't think you excepted deep lyrics here. His voice is pretty damn funny which he kinds of embraces, sounds like Meatwad From Aqua Teen Hunger Force and many other fellow Atlanta rappers trying to be the next Future, Young Thug or even Gucci Mane in a way.  He's self aware like I mention a bit early like his production, the songs, vocals and his split personality from his singing and to rapping, Yachty is the sweet singer and Lil Boat is the aggressive rapper, his music is like trap rap or pop trap music that's innocent and sweet, which blends well very together. With that brief history lets dive right into this.

The project kicks off with "Intro (First Day of Summer)" where he's playing Darnell Boat, one of his many character, basically saying thank you for the support that his sailing team worked very hard on this project as well and hope it will live up to "Lil Boat" and its pretty good track to kick off with Yachty crooning "WE ARE THE YOUTH" and saying he's the king of the teens and huge to the old heads who hate on him (Looking at you Ebro). He reflects him being a kid in high school being make fun and that he's eighteen he's buying his own cars, doing a quite of bragging here so this is a perfect song for the haters out there if you have any though just saying. "For Hot 97" according to Yachty not a diss to the radio station but more of to redeemed himself from his freestyle on the station and people who clowned on him about, If don't know the story, couple of months ago he was a guest on Hot 97 and host Ebro asked him to freestyle and Yachty was caught under pressured and didn't go well. Ebro said he had "high school bars" and the other hosts were clowning on him as well so this track is to prove hey I can rap and will prove you wrong. Must say Lil Boat did this track justice and I think he proved them wrong despite Ebro not thinking he did. There a few bars on this track I did enjoy and giggled at a bit at like "Stack so fat Ben Franklin like who is you folding" or when Bayou said "I just bought a bunch of groupies with Groupon", or on the final verse from Mr. Boat himself he said he will pull the sword like 21 where he references the sword tatted on 21 Savages face, for the longest time I thought it was a cross. "IDK" has the island theme laid back beat, its very glossy, its a only a verse here and he drops couple bars that once again laughed at where he says "Nut on her face, that's my kid house" or one line I heard many times before but being am immature 22 year old man he says "Pussy so bald just like Caillou", its a decent track it just felt too short. "King Of Teens" is basically like the first track where the whole theme he's the king of teens at the age of eighteen, its a decent track on even though the song is mostly just a hook and its way too repetitive. "Shoot Out The Roof" is where he start reaching towards the banger's tracks, Yachty takes shots at his competition at the any other upcoming rappers trying to steal his style and be clones of him, love the hook its catchy and its a bit aggressive with Famous Dex shouting shoot out the roof, overall a solid track here.

"Up Next 3" is the best track here and features my favorite rapper currently right now coming up, Fellow XXL freshman G Herbo fka Lil Herb. God damn now this beat slaps and makes me wanna do hood rat shit with the squad, shout out to Chris Fresh from 808 Mafia, both rappers snapped on here and both flows match perfect with the insane production with their insane flows, now this how you make a good banger and yes this bumps in the whip. "Dipset" featuring fellow Migo's member Offset and man I love this track too, especially sampling "Green Bird" from the anime "Cowboy Bebop. "Life Goes On" can be a lil hard on their ears for someone who can't stand the whole auto tune crooning especially Cook Lafare and his vocals are not mixed well in my opinion but Lil Yachty did alright and the message of the song is pretty nice that hey no matter what troubles going on right now in your life just keep moving on and stay positive and work hard to keep your dreams alive, Took me awhile to grow on but I like it. Now personally I didn't like the last 4 tracks here and didn't end the album quite well for me except "Pretty" I liked that track, had a PARTYNEXTDOOR vibe with the slow production and Burberry guest verse was decent. The Other three tracks yeah didn't care for them, The 2nd posse cut with the Sailing team "All In" yeah that was very hard on my ears, this is when the autotune crooning is too much.

Final Verdict I do like this project, but I don't think its better than Lil Boat. I feel this album from track 1-9 starts off really well and after that the albums falls off. I do respect Lil Boat he's a very awesome fan base and huge supporters of the teens, maybe he is the king of the teens? time will tell. So overall this mixtape was enjoyable and see where Mr. Boat will do next, That's all for today, Robert Garcia Out.
