New English by Desiigner

Who is Desiigner? Sidney Royal Selby the third is rapper, one of the XXL freshman of 2016, GOOD Music artist. He made his huge i mean huge breakthrough with his single "Panda" that dropped late last year but wasn't made into a official single early this year, He got a major co sign from Kanye West and was featured on "The Life of Pablo", Became the first New York rapper in years to have a number one single and was later signed by GOOD Music president Pusha T. Now Desiigner was received a lot of criticism for being just another one hit wonder and sounding like fellow Atlanta rapper Future. People have said the only reason "Panda" got huge cause everyone thought it was Future Hendrix himself but it was unknown kid from Brooklyn who in his words "Never been or smelled Atlanta".  There been other artists in this decade or the 00's been accused of sounding or biting other rapper flows or voices from other rappers in the 90's before but never another artist biting artist who i would say came out around the same time even though Future been around for awhile. In my opinion both artists sound the same but i feel like Future is a better lyricist and songwriter, not saying Mr.Hendrix is a poet or anything but he has better lyrics. Now this mixtape here is Desiigner debut, not album but an mixtape thats available on Tidal currently(cheap plug) that's a appetizer leading up to his major label debut "Life of Desiigner" that may come out later this year. With that introduction lets dive right into this.

Now to be perfectly honest this mixtape proves that Desiigner is still a amateur at the end of the day. This mixtape isn't cohesive and well put together with many tracks start off going well and then just cuts off abruptly which gets very annoying. Also the interludes can be annoying and very pointless as well cause all they are just beats that transition to the next song, I think the only track that end abruptly but still was a decent track was "Caliber". One track that surprised and came very left field to me was "Make it Out" where he changes whole flow and doesn't even sounds like Future, at first i had to make this was Desiigner and not some random rapper. He flow on here reminded a bit of Chicago rapper and fellow XXL 2016 Freshman "G Herbo", But to be honest i like this track just of him trying out a new flow and he does it justice and i wouldn't mind if he did this flow for his debut album. That are some decent highlights on here like "Talk Regardless" and "Da Day", on "Da Day" its a two part track with a beat transition that works well that doesn't feel lazy and whoever who was on the guest verse he did his thing on there which it makes it solid. "Overnight" has this very Travis Scott influence but i think that is still decent and i wished Travis could have had a guest verse on here cause it would fit him perfectly but still its a decent track. "Jet" Featuring Pusha T is my favorite track with a very soild verse from King Push and decent hook from Desiigner. "Zombie Walk" featuring King Savage it was an okay track i didn't care for the verses but the beat and the hook to the were good as well. If you're wondering about "Panda" yeah i love that track, it grew on me overtime since it first dropped.

My Final verdict here is that "New English" is alright for what it is, This mixtape feels like a  eight track ep with these pointless interludes and songs that cut off and seem like demos or previews for his debut album "Life of Desiigner" which makes me like it less. Lyrically its average at best but to be honest hes still new to this, he's young, i feel like guys like Kanye and Pusha T will probably do their best to help him improve. I think he will learn overtime and try to find his stride and maybe do well on his debut album. I think that's pretty much all i have to say about. Robert Garcia Out.
