Who is Logic? Sir Robert Bryson Hall the Third aka Logic is a Rapper, Songwriter, Producer and Singer haling from Maryland and this is his fifth mixtape and overall the 7th project in his discography. This surprise mixtape is has Logic has stated "This is for my fans, i wanted to give you something for the summer." Apparently he started working on this mixtape after his release of his 2nd album "The Incredible True Story" which i thought good, not great but still good, i still feel like his first album is better in my opinion. While Logic does have a large fan base he does share a fair of criticism, Many people even when he first blew a few years say that he steals flows and songs structures from guys like Kendrick Lamar and Drake, And i am a fan of Logic but they're times where in some tracks you can hear Drake or Kendrick in his songs. Which i don't think that's a bad thing i guess most but not all rappers now a days sound all the same and "bite" each other flows, mannerisms or even ad libs. I even remember people saying his first album i mentioned early sounded like "Good Kidd, Madd City" it always seem like many rappers always try their own version of that Kendrick album which i guess i can't blame Logic, I still like "Under Pressure". Logic can rap his ass of, he does have a good flow and lyrically hes getting better overtime. So I guess with this introduction and me just rambling on lets get right into this review.
Now going into this i knew it wasn't gonna be deep, this isn't a concept album, i knew it was gonna be a mixtape for the fans and something to play at parties or bump in the whip for the summer. Now personally i must say this mixtape is decent, its not trash or even great, just decent. They are some highlights on here despite being only twelve tracks on here, one of the lead singles "Wrist" featuring Pusha T was very solid and really good "trap" song and has a very catchy hook which every trap banger needs now a days. The other lead single "Flexicution" when i first heard i thought it was just okay, I felt like flow wise he did well but i felt the beat was pretty weak and should've came through with more punch to it, but over time it has grown on me quite a bit. Another track i liked was "Slave II" even though yeah he did sound like Drake on the seconded half of here and the beat on the seconded half did sound like Drake's "Summer Sixteen" Beat. Also if you noticed the first part of "Slave II" samples Rambo from Bryson Tiller" but its alter a bit to avoid copyright according to Logic's producer "6ix" and shout out to 6ix he did his thing on this mixtape with handling majority on the production on here. "44 Bars" is another highlight for me where Logic raps about struggles and his pain to carry on going at the rate he is at right now for his fans and his passion. Its very deep and retrospective and he goes in over a smooth beat. "Deeper Than The Money" was pretty cool and was an okay track, first half was basically the perspective that believes money will this person happiness and seconded half Logic explains to the listener and the person from the first half what makes Logic happy which makes the track overall pretty good. The Track before that "Slave" where he talks being a "slave" to the craft of work one many possess and Logic raps feels he's a slave to this rap game and he will dedicates his life to the rap game itself and the 2nd verse is his best verse on this entire project where he goes in deep talking about he's a black man but in the skin of a white man.
Now my least favorite track on here which was a skit and not a song was "A Word From Our Sponsor" which was very cringe worthy and not funny to me, i know he explained its a character he used to do back in the day but yeah i didn't like it and never laughed at all. Another problem i had on this mixtape was the auto tune crooning on tracks like "The Jam" and yeah some of the other tracks i liked had autotune it didn't really annoying as much but "The Jam" yeah no not very good at all. and "Super Mario World" i didn't like the production and it felt lazy and uninspired to me in my opinion. I think lyrically on some tracks he doesn't go over well like the Kanye Fashon line bar he spit on here didn't go over well and yeah it was pretty weak, couldn't come up with something i guess.
My final verdict here on "Bobby Tarantino" is that if you're a ride or die Logic fan you'll love this, if you're a casual fan you may like or not, or if you can't stand Logic this probably won't win you over and become a fan. Like i said early its a very decent mixtape its nothing deep or special i mean it's a turn up project that's all it is. I like it and then i don't, while they're some pros, there is also many cons as well. So overall i don't hate this or love this, i just like it so yeah that's all i have to say, still shout out to 6ix for the great production here. I'm still a fan of his and curious what he's gonna do next. That's all for today, thank you for reading this, peace, love and positive to you all.
