My Least Favorite Album's of 2021

When I look back into the year 2021 of music in general......It was fine. With covid rules being adjusted and some even lifted, more of the big-name artists dropped albums since they can do festivals and tours. Sure, certain artists could've dropped and I did enjoy whoever did drop. However, even the good albums had that "came and went" vibe. I didn't hear a lot of bad albums this year, just felt indifferent or disappointed. So this list won't be as long as past years or even that angry. So let's get into this.

Culture 3 by Migos

Man. I don't know what happened with the Migos. A couple of the singles leading up to this release were pretty good and I was a bit hyped to hear. But man. This was just bad. This shit came and went, the production sounded like the type of beats you get on youtube or those beat websites, and nothing stood out to me on this album. You knew the album didn't do well when not only did they release a deluxe version but they split the album into three different solo ep's. Another issue is there is hardly any chemistry, in old records what made them stand out and great how they could bounce off with each other with verses and adlibs. It just sounds like they going through the motions. The only positive I can think of was "Straighten" and maybe a couple of the features. I'm not sure how can be excited for another Migos record shortly, I rather just hear solo stuff at this point.

Faith by Pop Smoke

I reviewed this album on my blog so I won't get all day talking about this. Posthumous albums need to be stopped and let these artists rest. At least the debut album of Pop's album was good and had good people around it to make sure it was treated with respect. However, with this, it sucked. You can tell these tracks were still in the demo stage and not well polished, tact on features they made no sense, Pop didn't know of any of these people when he was alive. What's even more pathetic and sad? they added Dior to both of the deluxe albums. Yes, they dropped two deluxe albums. I'm not even kidding. Let these artists rest man.

Punk by Young Thug

We all have our missteps. I thought this would've had more of a punk vibe or a sequel to "Beautiful Thugger Girls", Hell, I thought Tick Tock was a great single but the album loses focus right after the first leg. I would've liked it more if the album was like his tiny desk performance, Had that live concert feel to it. Thug did get more introspective and personal, more slow pace with his flows which I would give credit, it's a different style for him. I don't know, I wished I could have enjoyed this album more cause it did have some interesting ideas but I ended forgetting about it after a week it came out and more disappointing than anything. Days Before ft. Mac Miller, I will praise thought, just because of the backstory behind it.

Bobby Tarantino 3 by Logic

Rappers and retirement, it doesn't go well like peanut butter and chocolate, more like sour cream and Oreos. So, a year ago Logic decided to '"retire" from making music to focus on being a father, be a Twitch streamer, and other projects but a few months later he dropped an album under an alter ego, he would release beats he made and even teased a collab album with producer Madlib. He made an announcement that he's back to making music full time and dropped the trilogy to the Bobby Tarantino series. It's just funny to me cause this dude was on twitch crying and thanking fans but here we are now. This mixtape fucking sucks. Yeah, I know he said he dropped this and made it sound like shit cause he was trying to get out of a deal but I don't give a fuck. This shit stinks!

Khaled Khaled by DJ Khaled

It's tradition to have a DJ Khaled album on this list. Greece was a cool song tho!

Visionland by YBN Nahmir

Corde was smart for removing the YBN name. This album kicks off strong with the intro track and its Nahmir best track. He gets personal about his family, cheats death, and reflects on people who passed away. It's a beautiful track but god this whole album just plummets after this. The features outshine him, the whole album is the most generic shit you've heard about women and cars, and the mixing is horrendous. "Soul Train" is easily the worst song I've heard all year. I appreciate he wanted to switch things up with the throwback of funk but the autotune vocals become a headache but also laughable. He became a laughing stock cause of the very low album sales and Adam22 saying he fell off without saying he fell off in the nicest way possible. I do respect the drive he wants to help his family and state but god this was bad.

Trust Fund Babies by Lil Wayne and Rich The Kid

We need a study case on how Rich The Kid got these opportunities. He's the perfect definition of "the right place at the right time". Ever since he met the Migos back in the day he got high-profile features from guys like Kendrick Lamar, Carti, NBA Youngboy, Nicki Minaj, and many more. He somehow convinces Lil Wayne to do a collab album with him. If you don't know, Wayne has been on a bit of a hot streak as of late, which I agree Wayne has been killing it on features like the good old days. I wonder how much Rich paid Wayne to do this cause this shit sucks.

It's not a disaster like I thought it would be but it is still bad. I do give credit for Wayne not phoning it in. I would think this would be more fun to hear without Rich The Kid hooks and verses, he still steals others' flows and cadence, overall the album is fucking boring.

The Revenge of Hobo Johnson

You wondering and saying "Robert, why do you even listen to this?" and yeah, you're right. It sounds you're typical doomer album who browsed the web aka Reddit, did some spoken word poetry over terrible youtube friendly copyrighted music, and bam! we got an album! He rants about hating the world and doesn't want kids to leave in this world, he talks about socialism cause he read one page of an Orwell book, and how he fell in love with satan and goes into detail about getting some head.....why?Apparently, he made this album sound like dog shit cause its leads up to another album, so I guess this an consider a concept album? NO. I know the dude got a lot of shit when he first blew up for becoming a meme but you never embrace the meme dude. It's a case that he was more focused on the message and not the music cause the music here is not good. Congrats Hobo, you made a bad parody album.

DaBaby. Just in General.

*Phew* what a year for DaBaby huh? He's a jackass. Sure, after that whole homophobic rant he had at rolling loud and the very bad statements he made trying to sorry didn't affect the numbers he does on the charts but is that his music is just as bad as his character. It sucks that homophobia has become more profiled now more than ever in the hip hop community with social media with guys like Boosie living on Vlad's couch, doing his part 50 rant on Lil Nas X. It's gotten worse for DaBaby is people didn't even know he dropped a surprise EP a month ago and one of the lead singles flopped pretty bad. If you want to know my opinion, it is up there for probably one of the worst albums I've heard this year. What the fuck was that Kodak verse? Even before that rant, I was getting soured on DaBaby's music. His beat selection is horrible, His flow is tiresome, and overall it is so formulaic and boring. Madden's menu music is what describes his music as of late. Crazy how he had an MVP like year two years ago and how bad he regress.
